Free Legal Aid in Plain Language

A simple explanation of free legal aid, available services and how to contact us.

Free legal aid means that you do not pay for the legal services provided to you. The State Budget of Ukraine funds the Free Legal Aid system.

How to contact us

  • in person at a legal aid bureau;
  • by telephone at 0 800 213 103, free of charge within Ukraine;
  • online through the official Telegram, Facebook, Instagram or Viber channels.

Two levels of legal aid

01

Primary legal aid

Available to everyone under Ukraine’s jurisdiction. A lawyer explains your rights, suggests what to do and helps prepare non-procedural applications or complaints.

02

Secondary legal aid

Available to categories defined by law. It includes defence, representation of interests in court and assistance drafting procedural documents.

Who provides the service

Advice may be provided by Free Legal Aid system lawyers. Defence or representation may be provided by system lawyers or independent lawyers cooperating with the Free Legal Aid system. Their work is funded by the state, but the lawyer remains professionally independent.

Start with a consultation

You do not need to know which type of aid you require. Explain the situation, and a lawyer will identify the next step and any documents you may need.
